Violent Femmes plan to reissue Why Do Birds Sing? in celebration of the best-selling album’s 30th anniversary. The deluxe edition arrives on October 8 via Craft Recordings.
The reissue will feature newly remastered audio as well as previously unreleased material, including alternative takes and outtakes, and a complete concert from 1991 recorded at The Boathouse in Norfolk, Virginia. The reissue will also include new liner notes by songwriter and journalist Jeff Slate.
The band has shared a previously unreleased track called “Me and You.”
Why Do Birds Sing?, which dropped on April 30, 1991, is the fifth studio album by Violent Femmes. It was the band’s last album with original drummer Victor DeLorenzo. Violent Femmes entered the Billboard 200 for the first time with the release, which was certified platinum by the RIAA.
In May, Violent Femmes had reissued their greatest hits compilation Add It Up (1981-1993).
