The Go-Go’s plans to release a 40th anniversary edition of their landmark debut album Beauty and the Beat on September 10.
UMe/Interscope will release Beauty and the Beat – 40th Anniversary Limited Edition pressed on pink vinyl with new cover art featuring a never-before-seen photo taken from the original album cover shoot.
Each limited edition copy is numbered and will only be available at uDiscover, The Sound of Vinyl and the band’s official store.
The Go-Go’s platinum-selling album Beauty and the Beat was released on July 8, 1981. The album peaked at No. 1 on Billboard‘s all-genre 200 chart and featured several hit singles including “Our Lips Are Sealed” and “We Got the Beat,” which peaked at No. 20 and No. 2, respectively, on the Hot 100 chart.
The LP sold in excess of two million copies and was RIAA-certified double platinum, qualifying it as one of the most successful debut albums of all time.
Last month, the Go-Go’s announced a short run of West Coast shows in December and January to celebrate their upcoming induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The quintet will kick off their five-date run on December 28 at the Masonic in San Francisco.
They will then perform at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater the following night. After playing two back-to-back dates at Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas on New Year’s eve and New Year’s day, they will wrap up their trek on January 3 at the San Diego Civic Theater.
