Katy Perry has done a cover version of The Beatles classic “All You Need Is Love” for a new Gap holiday advertisement.
The ad shows Katy singing the hit from the legendary band’s Magical Mystery Tour album as she gets ready for a day on the set. While the singer strums and smiles through the cover, young people in colorful Gap clothes are seen dancing and celebrating the season.
Perry, who took to Instagram to announce her partnership with Gap for the All Together Now end-of-year holiday campaign, revealed that she used to work in one of the company’s shops in Santa Barbara, California.
“From folding sweatshirts at the Santa Barbara Gap to 20 years later, starring in a @markromanek-directed holiday campaign dreams do come true!” she wrote.
“One of my first jobs when I was 16 was folding the fleece aisle at Gap in Santa Barbara,” Katy told People.
“Reimagining one of the most recognizable and emotional songs of our time with an iconic brand like Gap, having such a special and important message, has been a dream,” Perry said in a statement.
She added, “And what better reason to partner than bringing people together to spread joy for the holidays and raise money for Baby2Baby, a charity that’s close to my heart. Children are our future.”
Gap is donating $1 per stream of the new cover on Spotify to Baby2Baby, whose mission is “to provide basic essentials to children living in poverty across the country.”
