Elton John, who is preparing to restart his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, revealed he’ll “probably throw a party” to celebrate never having to sing “Crocodile Rock” ever again, saying it’s not among his favorites.
“The last time I have to sing Crocodile Rock I will probably throw a party,” John said while speaking on Watford FC footballer Troy Deeney’s “Deeney Talks” podcast. He added that he will never sing the song again after his tour ends in 2023.
“It was written as a kind of a joke, like a pastiche,” he said. “And it became a big hit and people love to sing along – so who am I to say ‘I am not going to play it’ because I play to amuse and to entertain people. But I have to say when the last show is done at the end of the tour I will never ever sing that song again.”
“Crocodile Rock,” written by John and Bernie Taupin, earned John his first U.S. No. 1 in 1973, and went platinum.
