Elton John and Years & Years‘ Olly Alexander stole the show at the recent 2021 Brit Awards with a stunning cover of Pet Shop Boys‘ classic “It’s a Sin.”
The pair paid tribute to the LGBTQ community as they fight through the AIDS epidemic. Elton played the piano, while Alexander, who was dressed in a lace crop top, crooned the iconic lyrics, “Everything I’ve ever done/ Everything I ever do/ Every place I’ve ever been/ Everywhere I’m going to. It’s a sin.”
“So happy to share this very special new version of ‘It’s A Sin’ with myself and @ollyyears of @yearsandyears in support of the Elton John AIDS Foundation,” Elton proudly announced on social media.
Alexander wrote on his Instagram stories, “This was crazy guys omg [sic]. This really happened!!!”
The performance was introduced by Elton’s husband David Furnish.
“By fighting together, we’ve changed the world. Today, HIV is no longer a death sentence,” he told the live audience at London’s O2 Arena. “The fight goes on until we can banish stigma, ignorance, fear, and the virus itself forever.”
The duet has also been released in a brand-new recorded version, produced by Stuart Price and Pet Shop Boys. All proceeds from the single will be donated to the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
