For 20 years, KOOL 105 has been your home for Mile High Hits. You've let us in to your home and your hearts. You've also supported KOOL and many charitable causes, helping people all over Denver, and for that we thank you! But our work isn't done yet. This web page is a chance for us to increase public awareness of some of our favorite causes and charities around the metro area. So if you have a few extra hours or a few extra dollars and are looking to donate to a reputable charity, you can count on KOOL's Cause of the Month to keep you up to date. Thanks for caring, Denver!
Save Our Youth
April's "KOOL Cause of the Month" is Save Our Youth, a one-on-one mentoring organization founded by Denver area churches in 1994 to provide at-risk youth with meaningful alternative to joining gangs. Through educational, emotional, and spiritual support, the organization has helped thousands of young people move on to happy, productive lives. When you commit your time, talents, and heart to Svae Our Youth, you truly make a difference in the lives of others.
Save Our Youth mentoring provides a critical resource to the recurring and growing need of caring adults in young lives.
Mentoring is the best back up plan when, for whatever reason, a parent is not active in a child’s life. Save Our Youth is committed to developing every youth in our three core areas. Over time, our youth reach heights they never thought possible! But not only does mentoring build up young lives, it impacts the surrounding communities as well. Mentoring works!
Interested in becoming a mentor?
Mentoring with Save Our Youth is flexible and promises in-depth support:
• All prospective mentors are interviewed and screened in order to be placed in the best possible youth match
• Mentors then receive encouragement and coaching from our professionally trained mentor supervisors throughout their mentoring relationship.
As a mentor, Save Our Youth asks you make a 12-month commitment, go through a brief three-hour training session, and to meet with your "mentee" once a week.

Our Youth:
The kids of Save Our Youth come to us on a voluntary basis. It is critical that the young people who join SOY are interested in working hard, learning, and spending time building a relationship with an adult in order to grow and improve their personal circumstances. Here is a quick snapshot of our youth:
• We serve youth in fifth grade and higher; 60% are in middle school
• Of our 285 youth, 50% are male; 50% are female
• 45% are Hispanic, 40% African-American and 15% are Angle, Asian Native American or of mixed race.
• Most of the youth are from single parent families with household incomes below poverty level.
Financial Support:
Save Our Youth relies on community support for our survival. Please consider making a donation to this important cause. Tax deductible donations may be sent to:

KOOL Cause of the Month Partners with the Daniels Fund:
KOOL 105 is proud to partner with the Daniels Fund for Cause of the Month. Philanthropist Bill Daniels loved America and believed each of us has a duty to offer help and hope to others. He established the Daniels Fund in 1997 to support programs that encourage personal responsibility and achievement. When Bill died in the year 2000, the bulk of his estate transferred to Daniels Fund, making it the largest foundation in the Rocky Mountain Region.
In the Fund's articles of incorporation, Bill directed the foundation to concentrate its efforts in two primary areas: College Scholarships and Community Support, including programs designed to help the homeless, physically handicapped and elderly individuals, as well as those suffering from substance abuse and mental handicaps.
